Day Sixty-Six

I knew my day today was pretty full, and that I had better set out early to capture today’s shot. I begrudgingly threw clothes on and headed downstairs to pull all my stuff together. When I left the house it was 6 degrees, calm and mostly clear. I’m not a wimp when it comes to cold weather, but in my opinion, anything below 20 degrees is a bummer and will most certainly yield cold fingers and toes.

As I pulled out of the garage it became clear that I better hustle if I wanted to capture the sunrise colors, and I did, they were fantastic. I didn’t go far, about a mile to the high school where I pulled illegally off the side of the road, flipped on my hazards and left the car idling. I swear not 10 seconds later a police officer pulled alongside my car and rolled down his window.  I was certain he was going to scold me on my illegal parking job and for what we call here in Colorado “puffing” (leaving your car running while not inside).  Instead he said, “I was just thinking that would make a great picture and here you are…” I asked him if I was ok where I was and he smiled and nodded and pulled nearby. We were on the same page, and enjoyed the view separately, yet together.

Taken with my Canon 6D set to Manual 1/20s, f10, ISO 200 using my Canon EF 24-105mm 1:4 L IS USM lens (tripod and remote clicker)

“We can only appreciate the miracle of a sunrise if we have waited in the darkness.” unknown
